Honduras Interactive Radio Instruction (IRI) Based Pre-School Program

Throughout the course of this project, EDC developed and piloted an IRI-based pre-school program together with FEREMA, a local Honduran NGO. The project aimed to simultaneously achieve greater efficiency of student learning and a reduction of student failure rates in primary education through the development and demonstration of a one-year, high-quality program which could be offered with significant recurrent costs savings; increase the percentage of children enrolled in pre-school programs; reduce student repetition, particularly in the first grade (currently more than 20 percent); and improve student performance in essential cognitive and social skills, including early literacy. The model will be taken to scale at the national level with the cooperation of FEREMA and the Ministry of Education in Honduras.
