Civic Education via Radio for Southern Sudan
In partnership with the National Democratic Institute (NDI), EDC's Sudan Radio Service has developed a new civic education radio series that will increase listeners’ knowledge of political developments and also promote increased discussion of political developments, tolerance of diverse viewpoints, and non-violent solutions to complex problems. Darfur News and Information Service: Sudan
Funded by the State Department, EDC’s Darfur News and Information Service encourages constructive dialogue, mitigates tensions, and builds the capacity of Darfuri radio journalists to increase the provision of news and information in the region. This two year project offers news, information, and an educational shortwave broadcast service in Arabic, Fur, Masalit, and Zagawa for internally displaced persons (IDPs) and other vulnerable populations in Darfur. Special attention is given to explaining the Darfur Peace Agreement. EDC has trained a team of professional Darfuri broadcast journalists who produce up to 6 hours of news and information content each week that is broadcast for the DNIS project. Read more >>
HEAR Sudan
Serving communities in the Three Areas region, HEAR Sudan uses EDC’s Interactive Radio Instruction (IRI) to build health and education program capacity, translate this increased capacity into community stakeholder actions that build local infrastructure and initiate health and education dissemination, and strengthen community support for school governance and outreach. In three years 180 schools, 9,000 families, 360 teachers and 360 health workers will have benefited from the HEAR Sudan program. Read more >>
