BEAMS Guyana Counting Sounds
Guyana has launched the Basic Education Access and Management Support (BEAMS) Project in an effort to raise the quality of its basic education. Funded by the Inter-American Development Bank, the BEAMS Project aims to improve literacy and numeracy attainment throughout Guyana, but particularly in its most underserved, impoverished regions. The Interactive Radio Instruction programs support core mathematics instruction for Grades 1 and 2. This segment demonstrates how radio can be harnessed to improve student skills in counting, through the use of sounds. Students learn easily by listening to the sounds as beats.
