Sintonizados responded to a request by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) to assist teachers in the Pacific Region of Colombia who were being trained in a newly revised Escuela Nueva (New School) teaching model. Most of the students in this Afro-Colombian region are displaced. Teachers met weekly in microcenters in two cities, Guapi and Quibdo, to follow Interactive Radio Instruction programs which guided them in learning the new methodologies. The 45-minute programs were designed to reflect the Afro-Colombian culture, something previously missing from the region's teaching materials. The response to the programs was extremely favorable.
