The EFA Uganda project used sports as a mechanism for youth development for in-school and out-of-school boys and girls. Implemented by The Kids League (TKL), this project built upon an already existing sports-based program in Uganda by placing greater emphasis on basic education and expanding to two new districts, Lira (conflict-affected area) and Kumi (high rates of school drop-out). Project activities included encouraging out-of-school youth to attend school, complete their education, and build community support for education. EFA Uganda was also promoting health, peace building, safe recreational activities among boys and girls, and contributing to the knowledge base of the use of sports as a mechanism for youth development. EDC provided technical assistance on all aspects of the program's expansion.
