Information and Communications Technology (ICT)

The allure of acquiring information and communications technology (ICT) can be strong, particularly for countries that want to expand their role in the globalizing economy. IDD specializes in working with local and national leaders to use technology to advance quality education–a core ingredient in a developing economy.
IDD plans its programs in collaboration with local leaders to ensure that technological tools are used to their potential. Training and support accompany any new equipment, as does planning for the sustainability of the programs. With this approach, IDD helps governments and others use ICT in the service of quality education rather than at its expense.
IDD is a leader in Interactive Radio Instruction (IRI), which uses the accessible technology of radio to provide instruction and teacher training to large numbers of learners over long distances, particularly where infrastructure is underdeveloped. When possible, IDD programs also use digital video, the internet, and other new technologies to give educators access to learning tools and information, provide a forum for teachers to share successes and ideas with distant colleagues, and involve students in interactive project-based learning.
