EDC helps countries create effective literacy instruction on a large scale. EDC programs can offer support at the home, community, classroom, school or nonformal learning center, district, and national government levels for improving reading and writing. Activities including teacher training, Interactive Radio Instruction program development, standards and policy development, and building a culture of reading all contribute toward helping students become independent readers.

Read Right Now!, EDC’s adaptable, sustainable, research-based literacy program, grew from more than 12 years of experience in resource-lean environments around the world and is based on decades of improving literacy instruction in the U.S. Read Right Now! uses a common, research-based framework across countries, but is customized to build on strengths and overcome barriers specific to each context. Though rich in content and instruction, the program is simple for teachers to deliver and designed to work in resource-lean environments for learners of various ages.
