Education Development Center (EDC), through USAID’s dot-EDU T4 project in India, has won the Manthan Award for Best E-Content Practices in the e-Education category. The Manthan Award is an Indian initiative by Digital Empowerment Foundation and is the national initiative of the World Summit Award. It recognizes and promotes the best practices in grassroots e-Content and Creativity in India. It involves representatives from each state and union territory of India and visualizes the bridging of digital divide and narrowing of the content gap as its overall goal. It was launched on 10th October 2004, by Digital Empowerment Foundation in partnership with World Summit Award and American India Foundation (AIF).
The Manthan-AIF 2006 awards ceremony was held in Delhi on August 5. The nominations and winning list of e-Content creators and their products cut across 250 total nominations in 13 categories. EDC’s entry was for an innovative methodology in one-computer classroom learning software: Group Teaching and Learning (GTL) Multimedia Hybrid. The pilot title in the GTL Multimedia Hybrid series is in physical science and targets Classes 4 and 5: Animal Discovery Learning Game. It is being implemented in the State of Karnataka during August 2006, and soon will be implemented in other states. Other titles using the GTL method are in development.
