Group Teaching and Learning Software
EDC has developed a unique and innovative series of learning CD games that can be used by groups of students or whole classrooms around a single computer at the primary school level. It is a hybrid of multimedia and pedagogical strategies designed to engage students in highly interactive and entertaining learning games, and it also provides a rich set of educational resources for the teacher to use in many different ways.
The GTL software includes these features:
- Embraces a whole class or group learning environment, supports the teacher and engages up to about 20 students simultaneously with one computer
- Formalizes peer-to-peer interactive learning through by engaging up to five teams
- Focuses on learning objectives based on teacher-identified hard spots in the Karnataka state curriculum
- Gives users three language options: Kannada, Hindi and English
- High quality and locally-stylized graphics, animations and sound
- Contains printable lesson plans for follow-up off-computer games and projects
- Integrates features from EDC's Interactive Radio Instruction (IRI) programs
- Includes animated team quizzes
Four titles are currently available: Animal Discovery Learning Game, Eco-systems and Habitats, What is Disease?. Animal Discovery explores the characteristics and classifications of animals, including mammals, reptiles, amphibians, fish, and birds. Eco-systems and Habitats explores concepts of eco-system and wildlife habitats and introduces students to numerous colorful examples of wildlife from both inside and outside of India.
A title on Mathematics: Angles, Triangles & Circles is currently under production.
